Faak am See, Austria, Nov. 03, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Click&Share GmbH has published a guide to choosing the best bike rental software for a rental business. It is written for bike and e-bike rental businesses, outdoor rental shops, and hotels and campsites that rent bikes or plan to. Its central point: bike rental software should be judged not only by how well it records bookings, but by how much of the rest of the rental it takes over – payments and deposits, customer communication, access, changes, returns and reviews.

Five questions to settle before choosing bike rental software: Click&Share’s new guide for rental operators, hotels and campsites. Image: Click&Share GmbH
The guide draws on the company’s own operations. Click&Share has run unmanned self-service rental stations in Carinthia, Austria, since 2021; under its Click&Bike brand, customers book, pay, collect and return bikes there without staff on site. The same software now runs rental businesses in eight countries, including Austria, Germany, UK, Finland and the United States.
The guide recommends settling five questions before looking at any feature list:
• Operating model: staffed, hybrid or fully unmanned – and whether the model can change per location, for early pickups, late returns or off-hours without staff.
• Automation after the booking: deposits as card pre-authorisations, instructions and access codes at the right moment, extensions and changes online, documented returns, issue reporting and maintenance management.
• Customer experience: booking, payment, communication and access in one flow, with no app to install.
• Access and locks: codes per rental and per bike instead of one permanent code; smart locks as an option, not a prerequisite.
• Multiple locations: opening hours, prices, messages and payouts per location, under one account.
The closing checklist lists 20 questions operators should ask in every bike rental software demo, from deposit handling and lock integration to data export and notice periods.
“We had to answer the questions in this guide ourselves before our first station ran without staff,” said Thomas Dickhoff, CEO of Click&Share GmbH. “Anyone evaluating bike rental software should ask to see three things live: which messages a customer receives and when, how an access code is generated for a single rental, and whether that code updates automatically when the customer extends online. If a vendor can’t show those three, ‘self-service’ means a confirmation email.”

About Click&Share GmbH
Click&Share GmbH, based in Faak am See, Carinthia, Austria, develops bike rental software: a platform for bikes, e-bikes and outdoor equipment that covers booking, payment, customer communication, smart-lock access, online changes and return handling in one system. Unlike bike-sharing and micromobility schemes, which rent fleet bikes by the minute from many drop points, Click&Share is built for operators who rent quality bikes and e-bikes by the hour, day or week to holiday guests, hotel guests and day visitors, from a fixed station, with a chosen bike, a deposit and a defined return. Customers book in the browser without an app, pay by card, PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, and receive door and bike codes by email and SMS before the rental starts. Revenue is paid out directly to the operator’s account via Stripe Connect. The platform works with many different lock types – keypad locks on storage-room and shop doors as well as locks on the individual bike – including smart locks from Nuki, Igloohome and other manufacturers. The platform grew out of the company’s own self-service rental stations, which have run fully automated in Carinthia since 2021; today they include the Click&Bike stations at Lake Faak and in Villach.
