Lucy Woodward Releases Highly Anticipated New Album ‘I Need To Roam’ (Out Today via GroundUP Music)

The borderless collection of art-pop, soul, and global grooves arrives on the heels of Woodward’s recent residency on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Lucy Woodward has officially released her new full-length album, I Need To Roam, available today via GroundUP Music. Coinciding with the album’s release is a spotlight on the project’s magnetic focus track, “Hush.”

I Need To Roam arrives during a massive summer for Woodward, following a highly publicized four-night residency on Jimmy Kimmel Live!–with a return appearance already slated for December 2026. The release is further supported by an upcoming dedicated episode of the globally syndicated Paltrocast, international acclaim from outlets including Jazz In Europe, and recent features on The Original Doll, Rod Kim’s Millennial Sleepover, and US Modernist Radio.

A bold, borderless collection, I Need To Roam collides art-pop, soul, and global influences into a razor-sharp, in-the-pocket live sound. Recorded across Rotterdam, Los Angeles, rural Virginia, and India, the album is anchored by Woodward’s longtime European band, The Rocketeers. The record also features special guest appearances by Grammy-nominated Indian superstar Varijashree Venugopal (whom Woodward also collaborated with on Venugopal’s recent record) and NPR troubadour darling Chris Pierce.

Co-written largely with her guitarist Jelle Roozenburg and longtime collaborator Todd Wright (who has been with Woodward since her early pop breakthrough), the album finds Woodward taking stock of her life, career, and recent volunteer work with refugees in Africa.

“Need To Roam is not about the miles. It’s the trip inward–from the kid I was, to the person I am now,” Woodward explains. “It’s about the urge to keep moving, keep growing, keep being open. That spirit weaves itself throughout these songs.”

From her early days delivering Top 40 pop hits like “Dumb Girls” and writing BMI Award-winning tracks for Stacie Orrico, to collaborating and performing with music heavyweights like Pink Martini, Rod Stewart, Charlie Hunter, and Snarky Puppy, Woodward has built a career on defying genre. I Need To Roam stands as her most fully realized and fiercely independent statement to date.
